Parent Communication

One of the things that can be done to help with the Coach and Parent relationship is to keep parents informed. As coaches, you are probably doing this, but what are the communications about? Keeping parents informed about details/schedule is necessary, but what about the process, the journey?

Recognize this important FACT: if there is a void in communication, people don’t fill the void positively. Our assumptions about not communicating are virtually never good.

Find ways to communicate with the families of your athletes, not just about the details/destination. Keep/get them interested in the journey.

See an example below of a weekly email that this coach sends to parents to keep them informed. Communication takes effort, but it’s well worth it. Notice what this communication is about. It certainly provides some insight about the person leading the program. After you read this, and it’s all you know, are you forming a positive or negative view of this coach?
